Hi all! I was quite surprised by the previous 'Resnums' thread - here's my view on it!

Exactly. It's more of a health issue than anything else. Everyone should be the size that's right for them - not what they think they 'should' look like.
And 'hate blog'?? Ouch.

What is so bad about being thin? A lots of celebrities that are considered ''hot looking'', ''beautiful''.. wear size S. :)
Latvian girls (as we know) care about their appearance.. Beauty standards play a huge role in our perceptions of beauty. Many of us just want to get closer to that ''ideal''.. :)

Oh gosh, I hate it! ‘Misery on a stick’ and 'skeletal woman' are offensive expressions! I have very fast metabolism and you know what? I love it and I am happy that finally skinny people are considered normal. I don't consider myself miserable since I am very healthy and I am able to lift up to 60kg.

Cormeum this is the answer
Everyone should be the size that's right for them - not what they think they 'should' look like.
. Maybe i don't want to be so thin but i have to starve myself because others consider it beautiful. How is that right? And beauty standarts (thin - good, fat- bad as hell) is not ok. How mani girls have bulimia or anorexia, because they do not look like ''hot, beautiful celebrities''? How many girls have committed suicides because someone told them that they are fat (for example someone, who wore size 40 (which according to latvian women is fat)). Beauty standarts play a huge role in our perception of beauty, yes and that is the problem. If a girl is a little bit chubby but feels ok, her health is not in danger, should she feel like a monster because she's not a ''standart beauty''? No. But that's exactly how society makes her feel. There is nothing BAD about being thin. But forcing people into this ''thinness cult'' - (''you need to lose weight, you're fat, others are thin, thin is beautiful, lose it, lose the weight, no one will love you'' and crap like that) and making them feel like sh*t if they don't quite fit, is bad.

Krista you are overreacting. Dsicussion is about being skinny by choice. Even here in cosmo there are many girls who should deal with problems in their heads not something they see in a mirror. And skinny not always means healthy. ;) I am talking about just being skinny, not eating healthy but only minimum to get trough the day and not to collapse. Healthy is sexy yes,but nowadays girls choose to be just skinny rather than healthy.

Linda Girls here in Latvia really are too obsessed of their looks. For example, when i lived in UK,weekly visit to shop was in my home clothes,or visit to the nearest Indian shop for some cider with girls could be in my jammies as I only went to the sho to get some food, not fashion show or a date. Here as well i go to my local bakery for some buns in my sweatpants, and i hate how people look at me,like I am some kind of homeless alcoholic :D It makes me smile, but as well it makes me sad, because we don't judge people by what they are,but by what they wear. I hate it that here,if you have money you have to show it,although abroad a lot of very rich people drive old cars and maybe don't even have iphone. :) And the same thing is about wieght.

Nazic, you just made me laugh so hard! I love that you embraced 'jammie culture' so fully when you were in the UK! I would love to see someone attempt to introduce it to Riga! :) I never went to the shops in my jammies when I lived in Ireland but when I lived in France (where I thought the winters were cold before I moved here!), I wore my jammies under my clothes some days! :)

I know what you mean about the looks you get! I pop to the shops in my tracksuit all the time and the withering looks I get - wow, if I didn't laugh I'd cry! In some countries, it's considered poor taste to flash your wealth. Here you flash it for all your worth so everyone knows you've got money!

Krista, it's great that you have a fast metabolism and are naturally slim. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that! I'm talking about the women who aren't that naturally slim, but are starving themselves or exercising themselves to the point of invisibility to try to achieve a body that 'the powers that be' have decreed women should aspire to have. Exercising and eating healthily is great, but it's when it goes too far that it can become a problem, as Hone has so beautifully expressed.
